Universities In Italy

As per Top Universities ranking by QS, quite a few Italian universities have a proficient ranking in academics. Politecnico di Milano and the University di Bologno are amongst  the top 200 universities in the world . The Politecnico di Milano is renowned for its engineering and art courses, and holds the same rank seat with Princeton University known to be 24th in the world ranks) – towards exceptional engineering and technology teaching faculty. The Universita di Bologna goes back a long way since its inception. Universities across Europe, have upgraded their standards consistently. Universita degli Studi di(Milan) and the Sapienza University ( Rome) and the Milano have courses that are taught purely in English.

International Programs

Italy is now focussing on programs that are taught entirely in english. Turnkey institutions like the Universita degli Studi di Milano and the Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore have bachelors and masters degrees that are totally or partially taught in English. The  John Cabot University, an American university situated in Rome, offer programs for the study for international students. Other Italian universities are now becoming extremely popular towards the study for students from abroad, and is becoming thus making it comfortable for students who are not familiar with the Italian language.

The Italian language

Knowing the Italian language makes it simpler for students  travelling to Rome and Milan, but also would propel students to bag a job after completing their degree. Employers, mainly in business, finance, literary fields, and education, require employees with  multiple languages speaking abilities. Certain Universities, for eg., the University of Bocconi Milan, offer inticrate language programs for foreign students, encouraging them to learn the Italian language.

Visa

Students who want to study in Italy must remember the fact that visa will take some time.From date of application; it could take a period of around 2 months for the visa process to get completed. Thus, ensure that you submit your visa application, with all necessary documents, at the earliest, in order to get your visa on time. It is thus advised that students should start visa application process at least three months prior to the starting of the program.

Layer 1

Higher education institutions certify admission, only when you have received a student visa. Hence, before applying to an Italian college or university, it is important to go to the Italian embassy or consulate to create a pre-application. They are proficient enough to check and tell you if are apt for the visa requisites.

Advantages of apply for an Italian student visa are as follows –

  • Accommodation in Italy is available.
  • Sufficient funds are there to support your -self in Italy, as well as towards study and other expenses during that time.
  • You already possess a valid return ticket to come back to your country at the end of the study program or have sufficient fund to buy it.
  • You are prerequisite entitled to medical care as well as possess a medical insurance policy already.

Layer 2

For a visa application, one should visit the nearest Italian consulate with the following documents you would have received from the Italian institution in which you have joined:

  • Letter of Acceptance
  • Letter of Enrolment
  • Insurance Letter and
  • Course Schedule

Student visas are valid only till the duration of your study program.

Layer 3

Citizens who do not hail from Europe need to apply for a stay permit at the local police station (Questura), within a week of their arrival in Italy. The applicant has to visit the police station in the juurisdiction of his living place, along with the following documents:

  • Valid passport, along with the study visa to Italy.
  • Proof of funds.
  • Medical insurance documents.

In case the candidate shifts to another Italian city, even temporarily, they have to intimate the police station about their change of address in two weeks’ time deadline.

In case students leave Italy during the duration of their stay, re-entry will only be allowed if they possess a valid stay permit with them.

Layer 4

Foreign students in Italy who come from countries outside of Europe, have to be careful about the propriety of their stay permits and study visas.

  • A month prior to the expiry of your stay permit, students need to go the Questura / the police station to renew the permit for the whole year. For this, one needs proof of finances for self -support , enrolment certificate issued by the higher education institution in Italy, as well as other related important documents.
  • Study visas and stay permits of foreign students are extendable only if they have cleared at least one exam in the first year degree program and two more exams in the consequent years. Howeverin case only one exam has been cleared, due to valid reasons like poor health issues, their stay permit may be extended. All said, the stay permits would not be issued for more than three years beyond the time period of the study program that the student has chosen.
